Woodward Japan requested Telic Engineering to represent them for commissioning of 5009FT Steam Turbine controls, ProTech-GII Overspeed Protection Devices, and TM25LP Actuators supplied to Mitsubishi Corporation and installed on board the Shell FLNG Prelude.
Specifically the requested task consisted of supporting the solo run in which the steam turbine is decoupled from the compressor and during which the overall functionality and over-speed protection is verified.
Prelude ,Floating Liquefied Natural Gas, FLNG is the world’s largest floating liquefied natural gas platform as well as the largest offshore facility ever constructed. It is 488 meters long, 74 meters wide, and made with more than 260,000 tonnes of steel.
The Prelude FLNG system has been positioned in the Prelude and Concerto gas fields in the Browse LNG Basin, 200 kilometers off the coast of Australia.
The Prelude and Concerto fields are expected to produce 5.3 million tonnes of liquid and condensate per year. This includes 3.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas, 1.3 million tonnes of condensate, and 400,000 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas. Natural gas extracted from wells is liquefied by chilling it to −162 °C.
