Telic Engineering received an assignment from Woodward Inc. to represent them for commissioning tasks of the liquid fuel system supplied to Baker Hughes, and installed on the Coral FLNG located at the Samsung Heavy Industries Shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.
Baker Hughes supplied, installed and starts-up four gasturbine generator units, and four gasturbine compressor units onboard Coral FLNG. These gasturbines are GE aeroderivative LM2500+G4 DLE with PGT25 power turbine. Two of the gasturbine generator units are dual fuel, i.e. can run either on gas or liquid fuel. The regulating valves, drivers, and control system for the liquid fuel system are supplied by Woodward and during commissioning have been verified, configured, and tested by Telic Engineering.
In addition to these tasks Telic Engineering also supported verification of the gas fuel system, and supported the startup on liquid of these gasturbine dual fuel units.
Coral FLNG is a Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) treatment and liquefaction plant. It is planned to be delivered to Eni, and anchored at Coral South, a gas field off the coast of Mozambique, but is currently being build at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, South Korea.
This floating plant has a hull that is 432 meters long by 66 meters wide and weighs in at about 140,000 tons. The eight-level living module, will accommodate up to 350 people.
The plant will be the first ever FLNG built for deep waters and the first built specifically for Africa. Drilling the six subsea wells for feeding the liquefaction units was done about 2,000 meters under water and have an average depth of about 3,000 meters.
Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) is one of the largest shipbuilders in the world, and the shipyard in Geoje is one of the largest shipyards in the world, having 3 dry docks and 5 floating docks. Here they build mostly ultra-large container ships, LNG carriers and LNG-FPSO with the world’s greatest production efficiency by having the highest dock turnover rate in the world.
